Panel discussion scene: three people in business attire are seated—left participant in a wheelchair, center speaker holding a microphone on a patterned sofa, and right participant in a light-blue suit—around a small table with flowers and a water bottle; behind them a screen reads “Florida K‑12 AI Education Task Force: The Power and Challenges of AI in the Classroom.”

With generous support from the Infosys Foundation, public school teachers from across the country were able to participate in a free five-day virtual course entitled, “Learners with Disabilities in CS K-12 Education.”Led by team member Dr. Joanne Barrett, the course was designed to engage teachers in instructional strategies and practices that remove barriers to learning computer science, including for students with disabilities. Highlights from the course included mini-lessons on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), High Leverage Practices (HLPs), and accessibility in K-12 CS Education. Guest speaker Dr. Jimmy Lin, Director of Computer Science Education at Vex Robotics, joined on Day 2 for a special presentation of Vex Code VR!

Reflecting on the teaching experience, Dr. Barrett shared, “I had help from our amazing staff with presenting sessions on various tools so that attendees could choose what tech tools they could explore.” Our team worked hard to bring this research and course to Infosys Pathfinders Foundation USA’s Summer Institute 2025 – From Classroom to Career. We thank Pathfinders USA for spotlighting our important research and helping us share that with K-12 teachers who want to bring computer science to the widest range of learners.
