UDL4CS Chicago Professional Development

Feb 10, 2026

This January the CS Everyone team held a professional development event with Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The Google.org funded Universal Design for Learning Computer Science (UDL4CS) PD took place to help teachers learn more about providing educational access to everyone in their classroom.

The first day brought together teacher leaders in the community and school district administrators. The program was led by Director Maya Israel, Joanne Barrett, and Alexis Cobo from our center, as well as the CPS Department Chair of STEM and Computer Science, Kris Beck. Attendants set priorities around resources, teacher professional development, policy, and funding needed for students to have access to computer science courses.

The second day CPS hosted and led a UDL4CS workshop for teachers across the district. Attendees include computer science, special education, and general education teachers. UF CS Everyone and CPS demonstrated UDL in practice through model lessons, unplugged activities, and a robotics showcase.

Thank you to Google.org for funding and supporting our teachers and students that benefited from this event.
