UDL4CS-2 and the National Science Foundation

Nov 3, 2025

The CS Everyone Center is continuing previous work  through National Science Foundation funded grant (#2434586) on a Research Practice Partnership, UDL4CS-2. Together, the University of Florida, the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and Chicago Public Schools (CPS)  strive to increase participation of learners with disabilities in computer science (CS) education through systems change and leveraging resources to focus on the professional development for special and general education teachers.

In October, CS Everyone team members, Dr. Maya Israel, Dr. Joanne Barrett, and graduate research assistant Adam Bernstein hosted a two day professional development session at Google in Chicago for local participants. First time participants in the UDL4CS-2 cohort gained hands-on experience on how to bring CS and computational thinking (CT)  into their classrooms, were exposed to Universal Design for Learning (UDL), High Leverage Practices (HLPS), and the fundamentals of accessibility  to reach the widest range of learners, including those with disabilities. Previous cohort members shared their successes and energized new participants! We look forward to sharing more as the research project continues to develop.
