Teacher Preparation

Teacher preparation is at the heart of our efforts. By equipping teachers with the skill sets and confidence to provide high-quality computer science (CS) education, the UF College of Education is transforming the state’s capacity to foster its technology economy and positioning Florida to meet current and future workforce demands. We have created the following comprehensive suite of seamless options for teachers to engage in CS education learning.

CS/AI Microcredentials

Our microcredentialing program leads to a deeper understanding of CS education and how it intersects with a variety of K-12 subjects. Created with pre-service teachers in mind, the courses are designed to be self-paced investigations in some of the most important topics in K-12 CS education today. CS/AI Content Integration

CS/AI integration incorporates CS concepts, principles, and practices into other disciplines within the curriculum for meaningful learning. At the University of Florida, CS integration serves as an on-ramp for pre-service teachers to gain exposure and confidence with the subject matter. Our team believes that CS is a discipline that can be integrated into a variety of subjects across grade levels. Additionally, research has shown that CS can help students develop problem-solving skills as well as deepen their understanding of subject matter content.

We are actively working with faculty members within the university’s early childhood, elementary and secondary education programs to integrate CS within existing courses. Through this work our team is helping the next generation of teachers to bring CS into their classrooms regardless of subject matter concentration.
